Soapbox Extra: Is it Me or I?

According to our friends at Grammarly, the best rule of thumb is to “Remove the other noun and say the sentence aloud. If it sounds wrong, switch the pronoun.”

For example:

Did you invite Todd and me?

Did you invite Todd? Did you invite me? They both sound correct, so “me” is correct.

Should Pam and I go to the store?

Should Pam go to the store? Should I go to the store? Again, they both sound correct, so “I” is correct.

Me and Jenn sent gifts.

Me sent gifts. Jenn sent gifts. Me sent a gift doesn’t sound right, so substitute “I”: Jenn and I sent gifts.

Please send the file to Jason and Me.

Please send the file to Jason. Please send the file to me. They both sound correct, so “me” is correct.
